Biography

KaJeng Wong is an internationally acclaimed pianist from Hong Kong/China, celebrated for his distinctive artistic vision and compelling performances. Born in Hong Kong and educated in Europe/United States from an early age, KaJeng has garnered top prizes at the Piano E-Competition in the US and earned critical acclaim at the Maria Canals, Liszt, and Rubinstein competitions. His commanding stage presence and musical depth have captivated audiences worldwide, securing his place among Asia’s leading pianists. The 2025-2026 season features major debuts at Shanghai’s Jaguar Symphony Hall, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, and South Korea’s Bucheon Arts Center.

A visionary beyond performance, KaJeng founded Music Lab in 2013, a production company dedicated to creating original content and concert programmes. By 2025, its flagship Music Lab Festival had become a cornerstone of Hong Kong’s arts scene, fostering diverse performances and cultural exchange through tours and collaborations. In 2024, he formed the Atlas Ensemble, which debuted with three Beethoven piano concertos, followed by three Mozart concertos the next year—showcasing KaJeng’s dual mastery as both pianist and conductor.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, KaJeng co-founded GingerMuse, a production and recording label specialising in high-quality projects. In partnership with Sony Music, GingerMuse has released ten award-winning recordings, earning international recognition for design and musical excellence. Among these are KaJeng’s solo albums: Seasons of Life (2020), God Pray Love (2022), and Mostly Bach, All Mozart (2024).

The 2025-2026 season sees KaJeng premiering Ye Xiaogang’s piano concerto Scent of the Green Mango in Hong Kong alongside Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G at Asian Modern Symphony Orchestra’s debut under conductor Wilson Ng, followed by a Korean tour. His recital Winter Fantasy travels to seven Asian cities in autumn, while Schubert: Lost—the second instalment of his Seasons of Schubert trilogy—tours in winter. Notable chamber collaborations include performances at Shanghai’s Z+ International Chamber Music Festival and Chopin on Cello tour with cellist Shi Chengyan. In April 2026, KaJeng will conduct all five Beethoven Piano Concertos, performing the Emperor Concerto himself alongside four distinguished Hong Kong artists.

At the heart of KaJeng’s artistry lies a profound dedication to the composer’s voice, delivered with intensity, focus, and emotional depth. His innovative programming—featuring works like Ex Nihilo, Five Elements, Tribute to Death, Oriental Russian Soul and Seasons of Schubert—challenges traditional recital conventions, resonating deeply with audiences.

KaJeng’s mentors—including Nancy Loo, Gabriel Kwok (HK), Emile Naoumoff (USA), Ronan O’Hora (UK), Julia Mustonen-Dahlkvist (Sweden), and Naum Grubert (Netherlands)—forged his artistic identity. Today, he stands as one of Asia’s most sought-after pianists, visiting prestigious venues each season with his singular musical perspective. The featured documentary about his growth, “KJ: Music & Life”, was awarded Best Documentary at the Golden Horse Awards in 2009.
